New Family Q&A

We are excited to welcome new families to Harford Christian School!

Below are some questions and answers that we hope will help to minimize uncertainty for you and your children.  Please do not hesitate to contact us regarding anything that may not be covered here.  We look forward to seeing you soon!

-When’s the first day of school?

Tuesday after Labor Day – September 6th., 2022

-Last day of school?

This may be affected by missed school days for inclement weather.  For 2023, June 10th will be the last day of school if we do not have inclement weather days to make up.

-What time does school start and end?

Arrival time is 8:10-8:25 AM and dismissal is from 3:20-3:35 PM

-Open house date?

Always the Friday before Labor Day.  This year (2022-2023) will be September 2nd from 9:00 AM until noon.

-Back to school date?

Back-to-School Night is Friday, September 9, 2022, beginning at 7:00 PM

-What happens at Open House and Back to School Night?

Open House – buildings and classrooms open and teachers present to meet and greet

BTS Night – Informative sessions with your child’s teachers

-Is there a supply list?

This year, there are some additional community supplies that will be required due to COVID-19 including staplers, hole-punches, paper clips, etc. will not be shared in the classroom.  Each student needs to come to school with his/her own personal stock of needed items.

2022/23 Supply List

-In which building is the book store located? And where in that building?

Bookstore is in high school.  Office staff will assist.  Purchases will be billed through FACTS

-Times that the book store is available?

Through summer 9-3 Mon-Thurs. and Fridays till noon

-The school office times?

Through summer 9-3 Mon-Thurs. and Fridays till noon

-What should my child have with them for the first day of school?

Supplies from supplies list, packed lunch, lots of energy.

-Is there a sign up to get a text message if the school gets cancelled?

All school families are automatically on call list for school delays, cancellations or early dismissals.  We follow Harford County.

Families have the ability to select phone numbers, texting, and e-mail or all three.

-How do we find out when school closes for snow or other emergencies?

See above

-We live in Stewartstown, would my kids be excused on a snow day if our roads are worse than MD roads?

We follow Harford County so feasible a PA district (Southeastern or Red Lion) may close or delay when Harford County does not.

PA transportation will not run so families will be responsible for getting children to HCS.  If they cannot, their absence will be treated as “excused.”  Conversely, Harford County may delay or close when a PA district is open.  Again, HCS follows Harford County weather-related schedule

-At what grade does my child require PE/Gym clothes?

Changing for PE (uniforms) begins in 4th grade.

-How does the car drop-off/pick-up process work (i.e. designed lanes, prohibited areas for cars, vehicle placards)?

Traffic Plan

-Who did we speak to if we have any questions concerning uniforms?

The high school office.
