Understanding the Adolescent
The often “tumultuous” years of adolescence need teachers of strength, stability, flexibility, and a keen sense of humor. The junior high staff members are all of these and more. As they manage their instructional environments with great expertise, their sensitivity to spiritual, social and emotional needs of middle-level students provides many teachable moments in addition to the academic curriculum. Well-Rounded Students
HCS is blessed to have a junior high teaching faculty who love their students and are devoted to their “whole” development. Academic competitions, fine arts opportunities, and numerous interscholastic athletic programs give productive outlets to the abundant energy of the junior high students.
Drawing the Lines
Our middle school begins with 7th grade when more children are emotionally ready. Because of our size and intimate family atmosphere, no one is anonymous. We believe in clearly defined expectations and boundaries with no surprises. Students have multi-directional social interaction that de-emphasizes exclusive relationships. The teaching of purity is a precious commodity. We keep the pop culture, that is antagonistic to God, at bay.
While we hold the bar high for behavioral expectations our days are filled with wholesome fun and warm fellowship. We foster an atmosphere that is safe and conducive to learning.
High School Preparation
Students are prepared for a broad and diverse high school offering of courses in English, math, science, computer, Bible, and foreign language. The “hidden curriculum” of building accountability, integrity and perseverance is an important focus of the middle school years at Harford Christian.
